Hop aboard for an exciting tour through scenic countryside and historic towns.
All aboard the Southwest Georgia Excursion Train to discover the real Georgia. Riding in air-conditioned, 1949 vintage cars, you’ll enjoy a mix of romantic yesteryear with the excitement of today’s South. The SAM Shortline runs nearly 42 miles past pecan groves and scenic country farms. Along the way, it stops in four towns filled with fun attractions, restaurants and shopping. Stops include Cordele, Americus, Leslie and Plains, the famous town where President Jimmy Carter grew up, ran his campaigns and still lives today.
The Watermelon Capital of the World, Cordele, is home to Lake Blackshear and Georgia Veterans State Park, with its golf course, resort, marina and military exhibits. In Leslie, you’ll be impressed by the Rural Telephone Museum filled with antiques, switchboards and telephones.
