Riding in air-conditioned, 1949 vintage cars, you’ll enjoy a mix of romantic yesteryear with the excitement of today’s South. The SAM Shortline runs nearly 42 miles past pecan groves and scenic country farms. Along the way, it stops in four towns filled with fun attractions, restaurants and shopping. Stops include Cordele, Americus, Leslie and Plains, the famous town where President Jimmy Carter grew up, ran his campaigns and still lives today.

The Watermelon Capital of the World, Cordele, is home to Lake Blackshear and Georgia Veterans State Park, with its golf course, resort, marina and military exhibits. In Leslie, you’ll be impressed by the Rural Telephone Museum filled with antiques, switchboards and telephones.

Americus & Plains

While visiting Americus, tour Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village, the Rylander Theater and the historic Windsor Hotel. In Plains, you can visit President Jimmy Carter’s depot headquarters and high school, several shops and an antique mall. Finally, explore President Carter’s boyhood farm in Archery, filled with lots to see.

The SAM Shortline is perfect for birthday parties, family reunions or simply a day out with the grandparents. Cars can even be reserved for private functions, while special runs to cities such as Savannah and Vidalia are offered throughout the year.
